Activities in Southwestern Mallorca

Well... southwest Mallorca has us spoilt for choice, and whilst cycling might not be the best option, it’s definitely more than viable with many routes heading into the Serra de Tramuntana. Water sports are a must, and the main attraction has to be the many golf clubs which are designed and cared for to suit the members of the club who no doubt have high expectations.

Guided tours into the mountains are very popular, as are boat trips along the coast. Being on the west side of the island also means that you’ll enjoy the best sunsets in the Balearics and maybe even the whole of Spain. Lastly, if you’re here with your kids, take them to Sóller via the original train that has been running since the beginning of the 20th century. Carving a path through the mountains, it’s the perfect day out and has retained all of it’s charm despite the changing of the times.

 

Beaches in Southwestern Mallorca

Just as with everything here in the southwest, the beaches are quite exclusive - and that doesn’t mean that they are reserved for the privileged, they’re just rather compact and incredibly popular. Places like Santa Ponsa, Magaluf and Palma Nova has excellent sandy beaches, as does Cala Millor, but if you want to play it smart and get ahead of the sunseeker crowd, then get your own boat so you can simply take a tour from beach to cala to cove until you find your own private beach.

Palma de Mallorca and it’s southern neighbours like s’Arenal have some great beaches, but they’re quite urban and with a little bit of effort you can find much better places to relax and enjoy the sea.

Nightlife in Southwestern Mallorca

If you want to party then look no further! Palma de Mallorca’s seafront promenade is the place to be with big name clubs like Tito’s Mallorca rivalling the fanfare and hedonism of the biggest clubs in Ibiza! And if you don’t feel like clubbing, there’s still more than you’ll be able to handle, like tapas bars, cocktail lounges, hidden basement bars and pretty much everything you should hope for and expect from a big city with a trendy, vibrant culture and population. And then there’s Magaluf... but you already know what that is!

Shopping in Southwestern Majorca

Again - the southwest - it’s the place to be. You’ll have to head out with everyone in your party because if you want to shop then expect to do so until you drop.Palma’s historic quarter has been attracting the best brands in the world since the early 00s thanks to the booming tourism sector, 5-star hotels and an unstoppable property market.

Many brands have their flagship stores housed inside beautiful old buildings meaning that many shops are worth visiting just to see the architecture.

If you buy something then it’s totally up to you! Palma de Majorca also has many markets during both the day and night. The two biggest and best ones are the Mercat de l’Olivar and the market in Santa Catalina.
